An Overview
Handong English Camp // Pohang, South Korea
Handong English Camp is designed to teach elementary, middle, and high school students the English language while also allowing them to have an enjoyable summer or winter experience—and all in the context of the Christian faith. Located on the east coast of South Korea in the city of Pohang, the camp is hosted by the reputable Handong Global University (HGU). HGU is recognized throughout Korea for its international appeal, its Christian spirit, and its premiere English curriculum. The notably large percentage of international students and professors give HGU a uniquely cosmopolitan atmosphere where the diversity of language, culture, and worldview create a beautiful tapestry, especially within the context of Christianity.
On average, the camp itself is comprised of about 200-300 students and 20-30 teachers, so each teacher can expect roughly 10 students per class. The students come from throughout Korea, and the teachers are gathered from native English speaking countries around the world, primarily from the US and South Africa as of recent. There are various support staff who are responsible for the daily operations of the camp. While the schedule is indeed rigorous, with so many staff, everyone can enjoy time off at some point during the day. Teachers can expect most evenings free and some weekend time as well. Handong Global University
Though Handong Global University is a relatively young institution, it is one that has uniquely and profoundly impacted the face of Korea and the world since its founding in 1995.
